OLLI students and instructors analyze this course’s potential value and uses.
Meeting and working with OLLI Class Members (hereinafter listed as OCM)
The intended outcome is that OCM will determine the value of this course to themselves and to others.
Activity 1: Each of the co-instructors will explain the rationale for his/her involvement in designing this course. (20-30 minutes)
Activity 2: In three groups, the OCM will discuss the following questions and report back to the entire class with a concise summary of
each discussion:
· Which of the instructors’ reasons for designing this course are important to you? Why?
· Who are you? What reason(s) led you to take this course? What potential value does the course have for you?
· This course was devised because American students have become less globally competitive during the past four decades despite many
educational reform efforts. Explain likely reasons why that decline has happened?
(45 minutes – discussion // 15 minutes – report to class – 5 minutes for each group)
Activity 3: Homework assignment – Using the internet, locate two, fact-based stories that predict a global challenge or challenges that
future adults will face. Bring the internet link for each story and a paper copy of each to class next week.
